From the first tooth through the teen years, every visit is planned for a child: check-ups, cleanings, sealants and fluoride, extractions, sedation options, and same-day help for emergencies. We make every effort to see your child the same day, and after-hours care may be available. 02 Check-ups Check-ups are essential to make sure the baby teeth are growing in properly, which in turn helps ensure that your child can speak and eat properly as well. 03 Fluoride Treatment Fluoride does more than prevent cavities. It helps rebuild enamel and can reverse early decay before it becomes a hole. We apply it as a quick varnish, no tray and no rinsing, so it works for wriggling toddlers and teenagers alike. Dr. Farooq is a board-certified pediatric specialist trained on three continents, with a research background at the University of Maryland. Since 1999, her practice has been devoted entirely to children, and she personally sees every patient at every visit. Certificate in pediatric dentistry, University of Maryland Diploma in dental public health, Royal College of Surgeons Member, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Meet Dr. Farooq ## Questions parents ask Parents worry. We get it. Here are answers to the questions we hear most, so you can walk in feeling at ease. When should my child first see a dentist? Around the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. The first visit is short, and much of it is for you: teething, bottles, pacifiers, and how to clean teeth that are barely there. What happens at the first visit? Dr. Farooq examines your child's teeth, bite, and gums, and shows your child each instrument before she uses it. You will talk through brushing, diet, and anything you have noticed at home. Most first visits end with fluoride varnish and a plan for the next check-up. Are dental X-rays safe for children? Yes. We take X-rays only when they will change how we care for your child, and the dose from modern dental X-rays is very low. Dr. Farooq will tell you what she is looking for before any image is taken. Can I stay with my child during the appointment? Yes. Parents are welcome in the room, and for younger children it often helps. As kids get older, some do better on their own, and Dr. Farooq will follow your lead. Do you take Medicaid and Healthy Kids Dental? Yes. We are in network with most major plans, including Delta Dental and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and payment plans are available.
